“By the Time I Get to Phoenix” reached #3 on the U.S. Pop charts in 1967. Written by Jimmy Webb, it was made famous by this recording by Glen Campbell. It was the first of three huge hits the Campbell had with songs written by the great tunesmith Webb, two of which reached number one, the third peaking at number two on the pop charts; a fourth reached number 28. The song has become a standard and is reportedly one of the most covered songs in history.

Thanks for the great tune and sending it my way. I love his accent – DElight, Arkansas – no far from a town called Hope.
ribbie,
sorry it took me so long to reply. Been busy on other sites for past few days. Campbell is from Delight? I didn’t know. I’ll have to read his bio. I know more about Jimmy Webb, having read his book TUNESMITH twice. Great book for the songwriter. I’ll try to feed you some more Campbell. You know the video for “Where’s the Playground Suzie?” is cool but it’s not available for embedding. I tried it twice and somebody didn’t like it, my PC crashed for 2 days again and again.
I was amazed to find this vid to be as great as “Lineman”.He must have practiced lip-synching to the record for days to get it so perfect. Or is this one live? No couldn’t be. It’s slightly different than the original release though.
