It’s a nice song, even though the some women felt it was put down to them. It was also what got Hillary Clinton into a little bit of Hot Water on 60 minutes when she said that she wasn’t just some little woman standing by her man like Tammy Wynette. According to what I read on Wikipidea, Wynette was just saying in that song that if you love someone, you have to be forgiving. And the irony of course was that Hillary did stand by her man which may have been the prudent thing to do for her political ambitions. But I am sure others will disagree.
Ribbie,
I think we all find out sooner or later that if we don’t stand by the ones we are with, they aren’t going to be there for long. Like Dylan sang “You gotta serve somebody”. John Lennon by the way wrote a very hostile parody of that song which you can hear on youtube. But I think I found out the same thing, eventually. –James
As Steven Stills wrote in that classic CSN&Y Song, “and if you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with”…
